A Milestone of Faith

Welcoming Children to the Sacrament

At St. James, First Communion is a joyful milestone in a child’s faith journey. We believe Jesus’ words, “This is my body… this is my blood… for the forgiveness of sins,” and we want children to approach the Lord’s Table with reverence and understanding.

The celebration of First Communion is woven into the life of our worshiping community, reminding us all of God’s grace and the gift we share at the Table.

Preparation & Celebration

Class Overview

We offer First Communion classes four times a year (February, May, August, November) on the 2nd Sunday of the month. In these sessions, children and parents learn together about Jesus’ gift in the Sacrament, the meaning of forgiveness, and how we prepare to receive Communion faithfully.

Family Involvement

Parents play a key role in this milestone—walking alongside their child, discussing the lessons at home, and celebrating the day together in worship.

Next Steps for Families

At St. James, First Communion is a joyful milestone where children are prepared to receive Christ’s gift with reverence and understanding, supported by their families and church.
